Jony Mainaly is a lawyer based in Kathmandu. Ms. Mainaly teaches Environmental Law in National Law College, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Ms. Mainaly concentrates her research, practice and publication in environmental law, human rights and climate change law and policy. Ms. Mainaly’s current focus of study is in devising ways to integrate climate change adaptation in subnational legal, plan and policy of new federal Nepal. Ms. Mainaly was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to complete her LL.M with an Environmental Law Certificate from Duke University School of Law. After returning to Nepal, she co-founded Digo Bikas Institute, a policy think tank focusing on environmental sustainability and development in Nepal. She also served as the thematic lead for climate change and gender and social inclusion in the Ministry of Environment and Population’s formulation of Nepal’s National Adaptation Plan under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Ms. Mainaly pleads in the Supreme Court of Nepal in public interest environmental litigations.
Mainaly also serves as a member of Environmental Law Committee of Nepal Bar Association and an executive member of Fulbright Alumni Association of Nepal.
